Multi-Vehicle Crash Closes Hume Freeway Near Violet Town

A serious multi-vehicle collision on the Hume Freeway near Violet Town has resulted in five people being transported to hospital and a major closure of the highway.

The incident occurred around 1:30 PM on Friday afternoon, approximately 150 kilometers north-east of Melbourne. The crash involved a B-double truck and numerous other vehicles.

Victoria Police closed a large section of the Hume Freeway in both directions near Violet Town following the incident.

Emergency services responded to the scene. According to an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson, the five patients were taken to two different hospitals for treatment.

Two adults and two children were transported to Northeast Health Wangaratta, while one adult was taken to Goulburn Valley Health in Shepparton.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while the police operation and clean-up continued.
