Baltimore Ravens Unveil "The Next Flight" Uniform Collection
The Baltimore Ravens announced a new uniform collection, "The Next Flight," on Thursday, April 11, 2024. The changes include two helmet designs, updated jerseys and pants, and the addition of the city name "Baltimore" across all jerseys. According to the team, the design incorporates elements of the Maryland flag and team history.
The uniforms are designed to evoke "a raven primed to attack" and incorporate the Baltimore name, hints of the Maryland flag, and signature phrases.
Announcement and First Look
The team announced the uniform changes on Thursday. Season ticket holders, known as PSL holders, were given the first look at the new collection.
Helmet Updates
Two helmet designs were introduced or modified as part of the collection.
- Darkness Helmet: The team introduced a new matte black helmet called the "Darkness Helmet." It features black talon stripes and a two-toned front-facing Ravens logo with red eyes.
- Purple Rising Helmet: The existing "Purple Rising" helmet, first introduced in 2024, was modified. It now features the primary Ravens logo instead of a previous alternate design. The team stated this change allows the helmet to be worn with more uniform combinations. It retains a metallic-purple-painted shell with gold talon stripes and a gold facemask.
Jersey and Text Changes
Several updates were made to the team's jerseys, including alterations to text, trim, and design elements.
The word "Baltimore" will now appear on all jerseys. The team's white jerseys, typically worn for road games, will display "Baltimore" on the front instead of "Ravens." The back collars of the purple, black, and Purple Rising jerseys will also include "Baltimore."
- Numbers and Trim: All jersey numbers now include a midnight purple stroke, replacing previous gold trim. The drop shadow has been removed from all jersey numbers.
- Sleeve Patches: The three shield patches on the jersey sleeves were updated to feature midnight purple.
- Collar Design: The pattern on the jersey collar depicts a raven's wings spread wide.
Pant Design Updates
The design of the team's pants was changed.
- The new pant design imitates raven claws instead of a straight line, similar to the helmet stripes.
- The pants also feature a diagonal cut representing the Calvert crest from the Baltimore and Maryland flags.
Material and Additional Details
- Color-Shifting Material: A color-shifting material is used on elements of the uniform, including the sleeve shield patches, the back collar of three jerseys, and along the pant stripes. The team described the material as emulating the iridescence of a raven's feathers, appearing purple in light and darker when light fades.
- Internal Collar Phrases: Phrases including "Play Like a Raven," "Purple Rising," or "Darkness There and Nothing More" are stitched inside the jersey collars.
Team Statement on Design
According to statements on the Ravens' official website, the design aims to "weav[e] in the team’s history while building a look for the future" and that it "threaded the needle between maintaining their signature look while introducing new, eye-catching elements."
