Manly's Trbojevic Injures Hamstring, Scans Pending

Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles fullback Tom Trbojevic sustained a left hamstring injury during the first half of Thursday night's NRL match against the North Queensland Cowboys. The player left the field for treatment and will undergo scans on Friday to determine the severity of the injury.

Details of the Incident

The injury occurred at 4 Pines Park on Thursday, May 23. Trbojevic was tackled by Cowboys players Kai O'Donnell and Jason Taumalolo. Following the tackle, he was seen clutching his left hamstring before exiting the field.

Fox League sideline reporter Brent Tate observed Trbojevic receiving ice treatment on his hamstring in the team's dressing room after the incident.

Club Statement and Next Steps

Interim head coach Kieran Foran addressed the situation after the match. He confirmed the player would be sent for medical scans on Friday, May 24.

"He's not looking too good at the moment, but we will wait until we get a scan to assess the severity of it," Foran said.

The results of these scans will provide an official diagnosis and an expected timeline for recovery.

A Concerning Injury History

Tom Trbojevic has a documented history of similar injuries in recent seasons. This latest issue adds to a list of previous problems:

  • 2019, 2020, 2021: Sustained hamstring injuries.
  • 2022: Missed significant time with a shoulder injury.
  • 2023: Sustained further hamstring injuries during the pre-season and in Round 10. Also missed time with a knee injury.

Prior to the 2024 season, Foran had noted that Trbojevic was "coming off a huge pre-season" and was in good physical condition.

Reaction from the Rugby League Community

The sight of Trbojevic's injury drew immediate and concerned reactions from commentators.

Luke Keary, former NRL player and Fox League commentator, said during the broadcast:

"It doesn't look good. You just see it on his face. He's been through this so many times, it's a difficult one to watch."

Keary added that the situation could have significant repercussions for both the player and the Manly club.

Michael Ennis, a Dragons assistant coach and former Sea Eagles staff member, described seeing Trbojevic get injured as "absolutely devastating."

The Manly Sea Eagles will provide a further update once the medical scans have been completed and reviewed.
