BYD Australia Invests $20 Million in New Parts Warehouse, Expands Dealership Network

BYD Australia has announced a significant investment in its local infrastructure, focusing on improving service and parts availability for its growing customer base.

The company is investing $20 million in a new parts warehouse in Melbourne and plans to expand its national dealership network to 150 locations by mid-year.

A $20 Million Investment in Parts Infrastructure

BYD Australia has invested $20 million in automotive parts, housed in a newly constructed warehouse in Melbourne. The facility measures 20,000 square meters and was completed approximately six months ago. According to the company, this substantial investment is intended to reduce vehicle downtime for customers when repairs are needed.

Rapid Expansion of the Dealer Network

Alongside the new warehouse, BYD is rapidly growing its retail and service presence. The plan to reach 150 dealership locations across the country by mid-year represents a major expansion. The company stated that nearly all of these dealerships will offer full parts and service capabilities.

Addressing "Growing Pains"

In a statement, BYD Australia's Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Collins, said the company is "working harder on service, capacity, parts, supply, all those fundamentals."

He openly acknowledged that the company's rapid growth in the Australian market has led to operational challenges. "With the volume of growth we've had, we've had some growing pains and we haven't eliminated all of those as yet," he stated. He specifically referenced delays in parts availability following mechanical issues or accidents, which have been reported by some vehicle owners.

To address these issues, Collins said the company has hired experienced personnel and is implementing improved processes, with dealer partners also committed to the effort.

Market Context

BYD is a Chinese automotive manufacturer that has been expanding its presence in the Australian market. The company's expansion of its parts infrastructure and dealer network is a direct response to its sales growth and is part of its broader strategy to solidify its operational footprint and market presence.
