A landslide in western Kenya has resulted in 21 confirmed fatalities following heavy rainfall. The incident occurred in Marakwet East late on Friday night, with rescue efforts ongoing.
Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed the deaths, stating that the bodies were transferred to a nearby airstrip. He also reported that over 30 individuals remain unaccounted for, based on reports from their families.
Twenty-five people with injuries have been airlifted to receive medical attention. The Kenyan Red Cross, which is involved in coordinating rescue operations, has indicated that areas most affected by the landslide are currently inaccessible by road due to mudslides and flash flooding.
