ADT Launches "My Safety" Feature for Mobile Personal Security
ADT has introduced a new feature called "My Safety" for subscribers of its ADT+ service. The feature, included at no additional cost to existing plans, provides three mobile safety tools. It requires an ADT Professional Monitoring subscription and is currently rolling out to all ADT+ customers.
What "My Safety" Includes
The feature consists of three distinct tools designed for mobile personal safety:
1. Emergency Call or Text
Users can discreetly initiate a phone call or send an SMS to an ADT agent. The agent, available 24/7, will then contact emergency services on the user's behalf.
2. Safety Timer
This tool allows for proactive monitoring. Users set timed check-in intervals, and if a check-in is missed, ADT dispatches emergency services. While the timer is active, an ADT agent can track the user's location to assist in directing responders.
3. Emergency Phrase
Users can configure a secret phrase within the app. When this feature is active, the phone's microphone listens for the phrase continuously, even when the ADT app is not open. Speaking the phrase triggers an alert to ADT's monitoring team, who then contact emergency services.
How the Emergency Phrase Works
ADT recommends selecting a phrase with two distinct words. The phrase should not include names or common emergency-related terms like "help" or "fire."
- The feature is designed to recognize the chosen phrase even when spoken within a normal sentence or conversation.
- During setup, users are required to speak their chosen phrase aloud multiple times so the application can learn to recognize it.
- Upon detecting the emergency phrase, the system sends a notification to the user's device before ADT proceeds to contact emergency services.
Availability and Requirements
- "My Safety" is available to all ADT+ subscribers and is included in their existing subscription plans.
- Access requires an ADT Professional Monitoring subscription, which starts at $24.99 per month.
- The feature is available to "full users" on an account. "Trusted Neighbors," a separate account permission level, cannot use "My Safety."
- Activity within the "My Safety" feature is private; each account member can only view their own usage data.
The feature is currently in the process of being deployed to all eligible ADT+ subscribers.
