CinemaCon 2024: Studios to Showcase Upcoming Films to Exhibitors

The annual CinemaCon convention for movie theater exhibitors is scheduled to begin next week. Major film studios and smaller distributors will present footage and information about upcoming releases to theater owners and members of the press.

The event is scheduled to take place from Monday, April 8, through Thursday, April 11. Its primary purpose is for studios to present their upcoming slates to the exhibition industry. While most footage is intended for attendees and not for public release, some studios have historically released trailers online following their presentations.

Scheduled Studio Presentations

Presentations are organized by studio and scheduled day.

Monday, April 8 – Sony Pictures

A 135-minute presentation is scheduled. According to reports, expected content may include:

  • Footage from "Spider-Man: Brand New Day"
  • An update on "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse"
  • Teasers for "Insidious: The Bleeding World" and a new "Jumanji" film.

Tuesday, April 9 – Warner Bros.

The studio is expected to show clips from "Supergirl," "Mortal Kombat II," and "Dune: Part Three." Potential first looks may include:

  • "Clayface," "Practical Magic 2," "The Great Beyond," and "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova."
  • Content from "Digger" is also considered likely.

Wednesday, April 10 – Universal Pictures & Amazon MGM Studios

  • Universal's presentation is scheduled to include "Disclosure Day," "The Odyssey," and "Minions & Monsters." Possible first looks may be shown for "Focker-in-Law" and "Werwulf."
  • Amazon MGM Studios may present first looks at "I Play Rocky," "Madden," and a remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair," and is expected to promote "Masters of the Universe."

Thursday, April 11 – Paramount Pictures & The Walt Disney Company

Presentations from both studios may feature content related to numerous films, including:

  • "Scary Movie 6," "Jackass 5," "Street Fighter," "Passenger," "The Devil Wears Prada 2," "The Mandalorian and Grogu," a new "Moana" film, "The Dog Stars," "Whalefall," and "Avengers: Doomsday."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Avengers: Doomsday" has performed well in long-lead tracking surveys. Disney may use the event to outline future plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Other Distributors

Smaller distributors, including GKIDS, NEON, Black Bear, and Angel, will also present. One title expected to show footage is "Godzilla Minus Zero."

Potential Public Trailer Releases

While the event is industry-focused, some content may reach the public shortly after.

  • According to sources including Trailer Tracker Buy Physical Media, the first trailer for director Zach Cregger's new film "Resident Film" is expected to be released online next week, likely following Sony's presentation.
  • A new trailer for "Evil Dead Burn" has received a rating, which is a step that can precede an online release.
  • In previous years, trailers for films such as "TRON: Ares," "M3GAN 2.0," and "Karate Kid: Legends" were released online within a day of their 2023 CinemaCon presentations. The trailer for "Joker: Folie à Deux" was released during its 2022 presentation.

Event Context

The event occurs during a period with a scheduled series of major film releases from late April through July. The presentations are a routine industry event where studios share their upcoming plans with exhibition partners.
