Seal on Road Leads to Traffic Diversions in Dromana
A seal on Point Nepean Road in Dromana led to a temporary road closure and traffic diversions as authorities and wildlife rescuers worked to ensure the animal's safety. The seal was eventually escorted back into the water.

On a recent day, a seal was present on Point Nepean Road in Dromana, located on the Mornington Peninsula southeast of Melbourne. The specific location was near Anthony's Nose.
In response, Victoria Police attended the scene to direct traffic. The road was closed in both directions at one point. Orange traffic cones were placed around the seal to separate it from vehicles.
Wildlife rescuers arrived at the location and subsequently escorted the seal back into the water.

Local resident Gen Abbott reported that she and her daughter watched the seal for over an hour. Abbott stated the seal is a regular visitor often seen along the coast, as far as Rosebud. According to Abbott, it took a couple of hours for wildlife rescuers to arrive and assist the animal.
Context of Previous Seal Encounters
Disturbances involving seals have been reported previously in communities bordering Port Phillip Bay.
- An elephant seal, referred to in some reports as Henry, has been reported in Blairgowrie and Point Lonsdale in recent years.
