Suspicious Death Investigation Launched Near Barkly Homestead
Northern Territory police are investigating the suspicious death of a 27-year-old woman near Barkly Homestead on the Barkly Highway in the Avon Downs district. Police responded to reports that the woman had stopped breathing around 5:50 AM on Sunday, April 5, following a reported incident where a car she was in struck a kangaroo.
The woman died at the scene.
A 33-year-old man, reportedly in a relationship with the deceased, was arrested shortly after and remains in custody.
Incident Allegations
Police allege a male and female were parked in a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee near the intersection of the Barkly and Tablelands Highways. This activity reportedly occurred between 1:30 AM and 5:30 AM on Sunday.
Suspect Travel Route Identified
Authorities believe the pair traveled in the Jeep from Gympie, Queensland, to Barkly Homestead between April 1 and April 5. Their journey included passing through Ban Ban Springs, Emerald, Winton, Cloncurry, Mt Isa, and Camooweal in Queensland.
Police Seek Public Assistance
Police are appealing for any information or dashcam footage from motorists who were in the area at that time.
