Character Background: Maxima

Maxima is a character from DC Comics, first introduced in Action Comics #645 in 1990, created by writer Roger Stern and artist George Pérez. In the comics, Maxima is a warrior queen from the planet Almerac who travels to Earth seeking a suitable mate, often targeting Superman. The character has been portrayed as an antagonist, an ally, and a potential love interest in various storylines.

The character has appeared in live-action television series, including Smallville (portrayed by Charlotte Sullivan) and Supergirl (portrayed by Eve Torres Gracie), as well as in several animated productions. "Man of Tomorrow" would mark the character's first appearance in a live-action DC film.

Confirmed Cast and Production Details

The sequel will feature returning cast members from the previous film, including David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo, and Sara Sampaio are also expected to return as Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and Eve Teschmacher, respectively.

New cast members include Lars Eidinger, who will portray the antagonist Brainiac. Actor Aaron Pierre is also a new addition to the cast; reports suggest he will reprise his role as John Stewart/Green Lantern, a character he is slated to portray in the upcoming HBO Max series Lanterns.

James Gunn, who wrote and directed the previous "Superman" film, is also writing and directing "Man of Tomorrow." The prior film was released in the summer of 2025 and grossed over $618 million worldwide, according to box office figures.

Production for "Man of Tomorrow" is scheduled to begin in April in Atlanta, Georgia, and continue through the summer. Warner Bros. has set the film's release date for July 9, 2027.
