Actor and Writer Michael Patrick Dies at 35 After Battle with MND
Actor and writer Michael Patrick has died at the age of 35 following a battle with Motor Neuron Disease (MND). His wife, Naomi Sheehan, announced his passing on Instagram on Wednesday, April 8. Patrick was in hospice care in the Northern Ireland Hospice at the time of his death.
Diagnosis and Illness
Patrick received an incurable diagnosis of Motor Neuron Disease on February 1, 2023. MND is a neurological condition that affects the nerves controlling movement, leading to muscle weakening, stiffening, and wasting. It can impact a person's ability to walk, talk, eat, drink, and breathe.
Sheehan stated that Patrick "passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends."
She described him as an inspiration and noted his "joy, abundance of spirit, infectious laughter."
His final social media post, dated February 6, indicated a neurologist's estimation of one year left to live.
Career Highlights
Patrick appeared in a season 6 episode of the series Game of Thrones. His acting credits also include roles in "Blue Lights," "This Town," and the BBC series "My Left Nut," which he co-wrote.
He was featured in "Blasts from the Past" and "The Spectacular," among other productions. His most recent role was in the 2025 German TV movie "Mordlichtern- Tod auf den Färöer Inseln."
He began his acting pursuits at the University of Cambridge, performing with the Cambridge Footlights comedy troupe. Patrick later attended the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, England.
