Australia's competition watchdog, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC), has issued a draft approval of a proposed global settlement between Epic Games and Google to resolve their long-running antitrust dispute.
The settlement is designed to open up the app ecosystem. It will allow third-party app stores and alternative payment systems onto the Google platform, and will reduce service fees for many developers. This move is intended to foster greater competition in both app distribution and payment processing.
The ACCC has proposed to authorize the settlement until September 30, 2032. Before issuing a final determination in August or September, the regulator is seeking public submissions until August 7.
