Fatal Crash at King of the Hills Gold Mine Under Investigation
A fatal vehicle crash on an access road to the King of the Hills gold mine in Western Australia's Goldfields region has resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man and serious injuries to a 32-year-old man. The incident occurred more than 850 kilometers north-east of Perth.
Incident Details
Just before 5am yesterday, the two men were traveling on a road within a mining tenement when their vehicle lost control and rolled. The precise reason for the vehicle losing control is currently unknown and forms part of the ongoing investigations.
Victims Identified
The 38-year-old passenger was tragically confirmed deceased at the scene of the crash. The 32-year-old driver sustained serious injuries and was subsequently transported to Kalgoorlie Health Campus for treatment.
Vault Minerals, the owner of the mine, released a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange. The statement identified the deceased man as an employee of Delta FM, a facility management service subcontracted by a catering contractor at the King of the Hills site.
Site Suspension and Investigations
Work at the King of the Hills site was voluntarily suspended following the incident to facilitate thorough investigations by authorities. Operations are currently expected to resume on Wednesday.
WorkSafe has confirmed an investigation into the work-related aspects of the incident is underway, with staff attending the scene. Commissioner Sally North offered condolences to all those impacted by the tragedy.
