Bill Guerin, the general manager for the Minnesota Wild, served as the architect of the United States Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 roster. Guerin stated that team chemistry was a primary consideration in the player selection process.

The roster, announced on Friday, includes 25 players. Twenty-one of these players participated in the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament held in February.

Guerin's stated rationale for the selections included the team's performance at the 4 Nations Face-Off. He observed that the players demonstrated cohesion and adhered to the game plan established by coach Mike Sullivan and his staff. Guerin emphasized that team chemistry facilitated the players' willingness to accept defined roles and potentially reduced ice time, differing from their usual responsibilities on their respective NHL teams.

During the 4 Nations Face-Off, the United States won three round-robin games before losing 3-2 in overtime to Canada in the championship game. Notable among their victories was a 3-1 win against Canada at Bell Centre in Montreal on February 15.
