WA Government Considers Fuel Subsidies for Regional Airlines

The Western Australian government is considering providing financial support to regional airlines to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices.

Proposed Financial Support

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti stated that the plan could cost the state between $500,000 and $1 million.

Premier Roger Cook announced that the government will cover these increased fuel costs to ensure regional residents using the capped airfares scheme do not experience price changes.

Understanding the Capped Airfare Scheme

Under the existing capped airfare scheme, the maximum fare for flights within 1000 kilometers of Perth is $199. For flights beyond 1000 kilometers, it is $299.

A scheduled update in July is expected to increase these costs.
