Severe Tropical Cyclone Vaianu: Fiji Experiences Heavy Impacts

Severe Tropical Cyclone Vaianu was located approximately 380 kilometers west of Nadi at 9 AM today. The cyclone is generating strong winds and periods of heavy rain across Fiji's Western Division and other parts of the country.

Hazardous Conditions Expected

The Fiji Meteorological Service reports that hazardous conditions, including flooded roads and accessways, are expected to persist as the system tracks southeastwards. The cyclone is projected to move out of Fiji's waters by tomorrow afternoon.

Government Announce Civil Servant Release

Responding to the worsening weather, the Government announced the early release of non-essential civil servants today. These personnel are required to remain at home tomorrow due to ongoing risks from flooding and strong winds. Essential service providers will continue operations under their respective contingency and business continuity plans.
