Relationship Origins and Early Observations
Kate met Martyn through online dating in the UK in 2006.
Kate noted early in their relationship that Martyn exhibited gentle characteristics and specific behaviors, such as providing meticulously coordinated outfits as gifts, which she perceived as atypical for men. Martyn often expressed appreciation for women's clothing.
Marti's Deep-Seated Realization
Marti recalled knowing she wanted to be a woman since age six, an idea solidified at 15 or 16 upon seeing a newspaper article about a man's transition.
Marti recalled knowing she wanted to be a woman since age six, an idea solidified at 15 or 16 upon seeing a newspaper article about a man's transition.
Due to societal norms in the early 1980s, Marti suppressed these feelings, pursuing activities traditionally associated with masculinity, including a rugby career and service in the British Army.
Marriage and Relocation
In 2009, Marti proposed to Kate during a hot air balloon ride in Australia. The couple married in their garden with 45 guests, describing it as an English afternoon tea party.
They moved to Australia in 2010 seeking an outdoor lifestyle for prospective children.
The Transition Journey and Building a Family
The couple attempted to conceive, but Kate's undiagnosed Hashimoto's disease presented difficulties.
Kate observed Martyn's unhappiness as a man and encouraged him to pursue gender transition. They decided to put sperm on ice before Marti began her journey. Marti expressed significant relief at this decision.
Kate underwent medical assistance for her Hashimoto's, taking 18 months to become pregnant. Marti officially changed gender weeks before their baby's birth.
Post-transition, Marti experienced increased happiness and contentment.
Marti credited Kate's support as pivotal to her transition, stating she would not have transitioned without Kate's encouragement.
