Miami's High-Net-Worth Embrace Mobile Aquatic Helipads to Beat Traffic

High-net-worth individuals in Miami are increasingly utilizing private helicopter services and mobile aquatic helipads as an alternative to road traffic congestion. ILandMiami, a company established in 2016, provides these Marine Utility Vehicles (MUVs) to facilitate direct helicopter access to waterfront properties, a service that officially launched in January.

The ILandMiami Solution: Mobile Aquatic Helipads

The service involves aquatic, mobile helipads, known as Marine Utility Vehicles (MUVs), which enable helicopters to land directly near waterfront properties. This allows individuals to bypass road travel, particularly for commutes between their residences and private airports. A typical single landing and disembarkation process on an MUV takes approximately three to four minutes.

Journeys involving an offshore helipad and a subsequent brief boat transfer to a residence can be completed in as little as five to six minutes.

Miami's Traffic Woes Drive Demand

Miami experiences significant traffic congestion, with commuters spending an estimated 93 hours in traffic in 2024, according to a report from the Texas A&M Transportation Institute.

These traffic conditions are projected to continue, contributing to the demand among high-net-worth residents for faster transportation alternatives.

ILandMiami: Innovating Waterfront Access

ILandMiami was founded in 2016 by CEO Adam Terris, who identified a demand for such a service due to Miami's concentration of wealth, numerous waterfront properties, and traffic challenges. The company spent several years developing its MUVs to ensure they could safely accommodate large commercial helicopters, securing Coast Guard certification in the process. The service officially launched in January of the previous year.

Elite Clientele and Usage Patterns

ILandMiami facilitates approximately 20 flights monthly, with individuals accounting for about 95% of the clientele. The service is primarily used for personal or chartered helicopters. High-net-worth clients, including individuals who have acquired significant waterfront properties in Miami such as Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Page, and Sergey Brin, utilize the service. Helipads have been observed in locations like Indian Creek, Fisher Island, and near luxury hotels.

Clients often prioritize privacy, security, and time efficiency.

The use of MUVs also provides an alternative to superyachts for helicopter landings, as superyachts may be too large for some of Miami's waterways.

Service Costs

The mobile helipad service is priced at approximately $1,000 per minute, which does not include the helicopter charter. The cost for a single landing on an MUV ranges between $4,000 and $4,500.

Future Horizons and Business Development

ILandMiami's marketing efforts largely rely on referrals within the high-net-worth community, often involving partnerships with luxury real estate marketing firms, such as Super Luxury Group. Real estate agents, including Angel Nicolas and Nancy Batchelor, are incorporating the service into property marketing strategies.

The company anticipates future growth, particularly with the potential introduction of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, also known as 'flying taxis,' in Miami. CEO Adam Terris views this development as an opportunity to expand the demand for landing pad services.

ILandMiami also plans to expand its offerings beyond services for high-net-worth individuals to include experiential services like scenic tours.
