Metrobus Crashes into D.C. Restaurant, Three Injured

A Metrobus collided with the Ambar Restaurant in Washington D.C.'s Shaw neighborhood early on Saturday, April 4, resulting in minor injuries to three individuals. The incident, which occurred after the bus was struck by another vehicle, led to emergency response efforts and an ongoing investigation.

Incident Details

The crash took place shortly after 7:20 a.m. at the intersection of 7th and Q streets NW. According to Metro Transit Police, the bus veered into the restaurant building after being struck by an SUV. Officials confirmed that the Ambar Restaurant was unoccupied at the time of the impact.

Injuries Reported

Three adult women, including the bus driver, sustained minor injuries in the collision. They were transported to hospitals for treatment.

Emergency Response and Site Operations

Following the incident, emergency crews secured utilities at the scene and cleared the building. Specialized teams were deployed to safely remove the bus from the restaurant. As of 10:05 a.m. on the day of the incident, Special Operators crews were modifying a concrete lip to assist in the vehicle's extraction. A full structural evaluation of the building's facade is scheduled to be conducted once the bus has been removed.

Investigation Underway

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), DC Fire and EMS, and Metro Transit Police are jointly leading the investigation into the exact cause of the crash.
