Olivia Rodrigo Announces New Album "You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love"

Singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo has announced the release of her third studio album, "You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love," scheduled for June 12.

The announcement was accompanied by the release of the album's lead single, "Drop Dead," and a music video filmed at the Palace of Versailles.

Album Announcement and Details

On April 23, Rodrigo announced her new album via Instagram, following a pre-announcement wipe of her social media content. The album, "You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love," will be released on June 12 through Geffen Records. The album cover depicts Rodrigo upside-down on a swing.

The announcement followed a series of promotional activities observed by fans, which included:

  • A billboard featuring the album title on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.
  • A mural in Los Angeles with similar aesthetic elements.
  • Changes to the background color of her official website and an update to her "OR" logo.
  • A lock discovered in London inscribed with the word "April."

Lead Single and Music Video

The album's lead single, "Drop Dead," was released on April 23. The song was produced by Dan Nigro and co-written by Amy Allen. A music video for the single, directed by Petra Collins, was filmed at the Palace of Versailles in Paris.

Production and Creative Process

Rodrigo collaborated with producer Dan Nigro on the album, continuing their partnership from her previous two albums, "Sour" (2021) and "Guts" (2023).

In interviews, Rodrigo has discussed the album's creative direction. She stated that writing from a joyful perspective presented a creative challenge and described the new tracks as "sad love songs." Rodrigo noted that her favorite romantic songs often incorporate elements of "fear or yearning."

Background and Upcoming Appearances

Rodrigo gained prominence in 2021 with her debut album "Sour" and its lead single "Driver’s License." Her second album, "Guts," was released in 2023 and was supported by a world tour, a deluxe edition, and a concert film. In 2023, she also performed at music festivals including Governors Ball and Glastonbury.

Rodrigo is scheduled to host and perform on "Saturday Night Live" on May 2.
