Puka Nacua Enters Rehabilitation Amidst Lawsuit and Prior Incidents

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua entered a private rehabilitation care facility in Malibu, California, in March, his attorney confirmed on Wednesday. This development follows the recent filing of a civil lawsuit alleging an antisemitic statement and physical altercation, as well as a series of previous off-field incidents involving the player.

Voluntary Rehabilitation in Malibu

Nacua's attorney, Levi McCathern, stated that Nacua voluntarily entered the facility to focus on his health, personal growth, and overall development. McCathern indicated that Nacua is committed to utilizing this time constructively to prepare for his upcoming season and continue contributing to his team and the sport.

Nacua is expected to complete the program in time to participate in the Rams' organized team activities (OTAs), which are scheduled to begin on April 20.

McCathern also conveyed Nacua's gratitude for the support received from his family, friends, Coach McVay, and teammates. A Rams official declined to comment on Nacua's entry into the facility.

Civil Lawsuit Details Alleged Antisemitism and Altercation

A civil lawsuit was filed against Nacua last week by a plaintiff who alleges that Nacua made an antisemitic statement during a group dinner on New Year’s Eve and subsequently bit her shoulder.

Prior to the lawsuit's filing, McCathern stated that Nacua denied these allegations. McCathern added that Nacua intends to pursue "all available legal remedies in response to these false and damaging statements."

Previous Off-Field Incidents

The civil lawsuit is the latest in a series of off-field situations involving Nacua.

• In December, during a livestream, Nacua criticized NFL officials and made a gesture that was regarded as antisemitic. He later issued an apology. Both the Rams organization and the NFL subsequently released statements condemning antisemitism and discrimination.
• Following a game against the Seattle Seahawks, Nacua publicly criticized officials in a social media post, which resulted in a $25,000 fine from the NFL.

Rams Leadership Weighs In on Player Conduct and Contract

Rams coach Sean McVay commented that he trusts Nacua's intentions and believes the player understands his responsibilities extending beyond on-field performance. General Manager Les Snead described Nacua as a "young man, becoming" and "continuing to evolve."

Both Snead and Chief Operating Officer Tony Pastoors have indicated that on-field performance is not the sole factor in decisions regarding contract extensions, emphasizing that all available data points are taken into consideration.

Nacua, 24, is currently in the final year of his rookie contract and is eligible for an extension.

In the previous season, Nacua led the NFL with 129 receptions, earned an All-Pro selection, and was a finalist for NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
