Australia Sees Decline in Childhood and HPV Vaccination Rates

New data reveals a concerning decline in childhood and HPV vaccination rates across Australia.

Currently, only 90.5% of children are fully vaccinated at 12 months, a notable decrease from 94.8% recorded five years ago. Preliminary data from the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) Annual Immunisation Coverage Report 2025 further indicates that full vaccine coverage for five-year-olds has also fallen, now standing at 92.5%.

This decline translates to 80,000 children not being fully vaccinated.

NCIRS Director Professor Kristine Macartney highlighted the significance of these figures, stating that the decline means 80,000 children are not fully vaccinated. Macartney emphasized the urgent need for Australia to implement measures to improve its immunization program.
