Zenobē Targets 2,000 Electric Trucks in Australia by Year-End

Zenobē is setting an ambitious target to significantly expand its heavy-duty electric truck support in Australia. The company aims to increase the total number of heavy-duty electric trucks it supports to 2,000 by the end of the year. This initiative comes as Australia's truck fleet faces a critical juncture.

Zenobē aims to increase the total number of heavy-duty electric trucks it supports to 2,000 by the end of the year.

The company indicated that 56% of Australia’s truck fleet is over a decade old, leading operators to evaluate replacement technologies as vehicles reach their operational lifespan. This provides a significant opportunity for electric vehicle adoption as fleet owners look to modernize.

Key Objectives of Funding Application

The funds Zenobē is applying for are specifically designated for several key areas:

  • Procuring new electric trucks for commercial operators.
  • Developing a comprehensive ecosystem that includes charging infrastructure, battery replacements, and deployment services.
  • Achieving a total cost of ownership (TCO) that is comparable to or better than diesel fleets is a core aim. This critical financial objective is designed to make the transition appealing for operators.
  • Zenobē also plans to provide fleet planning support, such as depot assessments and fleet and energy modeling, at no expense to operators. This complimentary service underscores their commitment to facilitating a smooth transition.

Australia's Electric Truck Sector Poised for Growth

Gareth Ridge, Zenobē country director for Australia and New Zealand, shared an optimistic outlook on the future of electric transport in the region. He expressed that the electric truck sector in Australia is poised for expansion.

Ridge emphasized the critical timing of current developments: decisions made within the next five years would define the sector's direction for the subsequent two decades.

Zenobē's goal is to make the transition to electric vehicles TCO-neutral, thereby aligning sustainable choices with commercial viability.

The company's strategy is to ensure that making sustainable choices is also commercially sound.

Investment Background

The specific origin of Zenobē's current funding has not been confirmed. However, there is a precedent for significant investment in the company.

Last year, Zenobē received a $6 million AUD investment from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC). This investment played a crucial role in supporting the leasing of 60 electric trucks to Woolworths. This was part of a broader $19 million AUD investment that included contributions from ARENA and Zenobē itself.

It is important to note that no information suggests a direct connection between this previous investment and the current funding efforts.
