NFL Announces Seattle Seahawks for "Hard Knocks," Patriots Confirmed for 2027
The National Football League (NFL) has announced that the Seattle Seahawks will be featured on the HBO documentary series "Hard Knocks" during their training camp this summer. Additionally, the New England Patriots are scheduled to appear on the series in 2027, marking the first time the league has confirmed a "Hard Knocks" team more than a year in advance.
Seattle Seahawks Set for First "Hard Knocks" Appearance
The Seattle Seahawks' training camp edition of "Hard Knocks" will consist of five episodes. The series is set to debut at 9 p.m. ET on August 11 on HBO and HBO Max. Subsequent new episodes will air on Tuesdays, with the finale scheduled for September 8.
This will be the Seahawks' first appearance on the series.
The Seattle Seahawks will also be the first defending Super Bowl champion to be documented on "Hard Knocks" since the Baltimore Ravens in the inaugural season of 2001.
New England Patriots to Join in 2027
The New England Patriots' appearance in 2027 will be their first time participating in "Hard Knocks." This marks the first occasion the Patriots franchise will grant this level of outside access to its day-to-day operations for the series.
About "Hard Knocks": An Inside Look
"Hard Knocks," produced by NFL Films and HBO, offers an in-depth look at NFL teams during their training camp and preseason.
The series typically covers aspects such as team meetings, player profiles, and the process of roster cuts.
Expanded Eligibility for "Hard Knocks"
Historically, certain teams, including the Patriots, were exempt from appearing on "Hard Knocks" due to specific NFL rules. These exemptions previously applied to teams that:
- Had made the playoffs in either of the last two seasons.
- Had a first-year head coach.
- Had appeared on the show within the previous eight to ten years.
The NFL expanded the eligibility criteria for teams appearing on the series last year, specifically removing stipulations such as the playoff team exemption. These changes have made more teams, including the Patriots, eligible for participation. Some teams have historically expressed concerns regarding potential distractions that the documentary series might cause during their training camp preparations.
