Queensland Rail Disruptions in April

Most rail services in South-East Queensland will experience rolling track closures throughout April. These disruptions are scheduled from Good Friday until Sunday, April 26, impacting various events including Anzac Day services and NRL/AFL games. The closures are necessary due to significant works underway, including the Cross River Rail project, as well as general network upgrades and maintenance.

Commuters should be aware that most rail services in South-East Queensland will face disruptions from Good Friday until April 26 due to essential network upgrades.

Affected Lines and Services

Specific lines will be impacted during different periods:

  • From Good Friday to April 11: Airport, Beenleigh, Caboolture, Doomben, Gold Coast, Redcliffe Peninsula, Shorncliffe, and Sunshine Coast lines.
  • Until April 26: Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines will continue to be impacted.

Buses will replace trains on all affected lines. Commuters are advised to plan ahead and allow additional travel time. A Department of Transport and Main Roads spokesperson stated that capacity is available on the public transport network and travel patterns are being monitored.

Fuel Price Context

These rail disruptions occur as fuel prices remain high, with unleaded petrol nearing $2.60 per litre and diesel over $3 per litre in many areas.

The federal government announced a halving of the fuel excise, effective April 1, which is expected to reduce costs by 26.3 cents per litre. However, this price drop will not be immediate, as service stations will first need to sell fuel purchased at the higher excise rate.

Queensland has not opted for free public transport, unlike Victoria and Tasmania, citing that all Translink services in the state are already capped at 50 cents per trip.
