Incident Unfolds in Bulverde
The incident unfolded shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Monday, minutes before the start of the school day, at the Hill Country College Preparatory High School campus, located approximately 30 miles north of San Antonio. Law enforcement confirmed that a 15-year-old male student shot a teacher and subsequently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Following the shooting, the school's lockdown alarm was activated. Witnesses reported hearing loud bangs and screaming from a second-floor room, with one student recalling five shots before a teacher ushered students into a classroom for safety.
Swift Law Enforcement Response
The Comal County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident via a news release on Facebook. Sheriff Mark Reynolds characterized the event as a "shooting" rather than an "active shooter" situation, stating that the threat was contained quickly.
Multiple agencies responded to the campus, including the Bulverde Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Texas Rangers. Sheriff Reynolds credited the rapid response to ongoing inter-agency training.
By 9:38 a.m., the school district announced the campus was secure. Students were subsequently relocated to Bulverde Middle School for reunification with their families. The gunman’s family was reported to be present at the reunification center when approached by law enforcement.
Aftermath and Ongoing Investigation
