Laura Dern to Portray Journalist Julie K. Brown in Jeffrey Epstein Series
Laura Dern is set to portray journalist Julie K. Brown in a new limited series. The series will focus on Brown's investigation into financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Project Details and Creative Team
Executive produced by Adam McKay, the project is based on Brown’s 2021 book "Perversion of Injustice: The Jeffrey Epstein Story." Sharon Hoffman and Eileen Myers are slated to write the screenplay and serve as co-showrunners.
Investigative Focus and Impact
The as-yet untitled series from Sony Pictures TV aims to provide an account of an investigative reporter exposing a plea deal between Epstein and federal prosecutors.
It will draw from Brown’s multi-year investigation, which reportedly identified 80 victims and contributed to the arrests of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
Journalist Julie K. Brown's Influence
Brown’s 2018 Miami Herald series contributed to bringing public attention to Epstein's crimes, leading to sex-trafficking charges. Her reporting also led to the resignation of then-Labor Secretary Alex Acosta, who, as a US attorney, approved a non-prosecution agreement for Epstein in the mid-2000s.
Production Status
Epstein died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal charges. The series is currently seeking a buyer and has not yet commenced production.
