Mr. Albanese also expressed a desire for increased clarity regarding the conflict's objectives. He stated that objectives outlined by former President Trump at the beginning of the process had largely been achieved.

- Stopping Iran's Nuclear Weapon Program: Mr. Albanese believes this objective has been achieved.
- Degrading Iran's Military Action Capability: This objective, involving proxies such as Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis, has seen substantial progress in degrading Iran's position, according to Mr. Albanese.
- Regime Change: Regarding this objective, Mr. Albanese stated that historical evidence suggests externally imposed regime change is challenging and often occurs from within a country.
Stance on Iranian Government
Addressing the Iranian government, Mr. Albanese conveyed his strong disapproval. He stated his wish for the Iranian government to be replaced, describing it as "abhorrent and reprehensible."

He also affirmed solidarity with the Iranian people, citing their experiences with abuse, human rights atrocities, and oppression, particularly affecting women and minorities.
Past Threats and Civilian Concerns
Former President Trump had previously threatened to target Iranian civilian infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, should Iran fail to meet a deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Mr. Albanese did not provide comment on concerns related to potential civilian casualties if Iranian civilian infrastructure were to be targeted.
