Massive Anti-Far-Right Demonstration Held in London
An estimated 500,000 individuals participated in an anti-far-right demonstration in London. Organizers characterized the event as the largest of its type.
Participants marched through London, concluding at Whitehall. They carried placards expressing opposition to racism and support for refugees. A significant police presence monitored the event.
Organizers indicated that the turnout exceeded a previous rally led by Tommy Robinson in September, which had an attendance of 110,000 to 150,000 people.
Speakers and Organizing Groups
Speakers at the demonstration included former Labour MP Diane Abbott and musician Billy Bragg, who performed protest songs and articulated critiques of divisive political approaches.
The event was co-organized by groups such as the Together Alliance and Stand Up To Racism. Their stated objective was to counter the perceived growth of far-right support within the UK.
Police Report Arrests
The Metropolitan Police reported 18 arrests related to supporting Palestine Action, two for climbing the National Gallery columns, and five additional arrests for other reasons.
