Rugby League Mourns Passing of Noah Johannssen at 22

Noah Johannssen, a promising forward for the North Sydney Bears, has tragically passed away at the age of 22. His passing comes just weeks before his 23rd birthday, which was set for April 23.

Johannssen had joined the North Sydney Bears for the 2026 season, having previously played for the Wests Tigers. He had not yet made his debut for the Bears.

In 2025, Johannssen played nine NSW Cup games for the Wests Tigers and notably featured in an NRL pre-season challenge game against the Bulldogs.

Noah is the brother of Tim Johannssen, who debuted in the NRL for the Wests Tigers in 2024. Tim has also played for Newcastle, Wests, and Souths in the NSW Cup.

Tributes have begun to flow from clubs Johannssen was associated with.

The North Sydney Bears issued a statement on social media, noting that Johannssen had been with the club for five months. The statement highlighted his "vibrant nature, dedication, and the respect he showed to others."

Bears CEO Gareth Holmes stated that Johannssen was a "person of character and integrity," offering the club's heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

His former club, the Western Suburbs Magpies, also posted a tribute on social media following the news.
