"I take full responsibility. I don't blame anyone else." — Bruce Buffer
Announcer Error Forces Rare Correction at UFC Seattle
Seattle, WA – A chaotic post-fight scene unfolded at UFC Seattle’s preliminary card on Saturday night, when legendary announcer Bruce Buffer mistakenly declared the wrong winner before correcting the record.
The bout featured No. 8-ranked heavyweight Marcin Tybura facing UFC newcomer Tyrell Fortune, a former Bellator veteran. Fortune controlled much of the contest using relentless wrestling and pressure tactics.
Immediately following the final bell, Buffer announced Tybura as the winner by unanimous decision, citing scorecards of 30-27, 29-28, and 29-28. Fortune had already left the cage after the announcement.
It was subsequently determined that Buffer had misread the official decision. Fortune was then brought back into the cage, where Buffer apologized and correctly announced Fortune as the winner by unanimous decision.
"I Don't Blame Others"
Buffer accepted full responsibility for the error, stating, "I don't blame others." UFC CEO Dana White commented that Buffer "rarely makes mistakes," underscoring the unusual nature of the incident.
Buffer also expressed regret for the emotional impact of the error on the fighters involved. This incident occurred shortly after a scoring discrepancy at a previous UFC event, where Buffer correctly announced a result that was later overturned by the athletic commission.
