Infant Dies, Two Seriously Injured in Perth Rideshare Crash; Driver Charged

A 7-month-old infant has died and two other passengers sustained serious injuries after a rideshare vehicle crashed in Perth's south-east. The 35-year-old driver of the vehicle has been charged in connection with the incident.

The 7-month-old infant sustained serious injuries and was transported to Fiona Stanley Hospital, where the child later died.

Incident Details Emerge

The crash occurred at approximately 3:40 AM on Saturday on Nicholson Road in Lynwood. A silver Toyota Kluger, operating as a rideshare vehicle, reportedly departed the carriageway.

CCTV footage indicates the vehicle first collided with a bus stop before striking a tree.

Tragic Casualties and Injuries

In addition to the infant's death, a 32-year-old woman and a 3-year-old child, also passengers in the vehicle, sustained serious injuries. The 3-year-old child was transported to Perth Children's Hospital, while the mother was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital.

The 35-year-old driver sustained minor injuries. Witnesses at the scene reported hearing a loud noise and described attempts to assist the family, including administering CPR to the infant.

Driver Charged

Western Australia Police have charged the 35-year-old Caversham resident, who was the driver of the rideshare vehicle. The charges include dangerous driving occasioning death and two counts of dangerous driving occasioning bodily harm.

The individual is scheduled to appear in Armadale Magistrates Court on April 20.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities, including Major Crash investigators, are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The investigation includes examining whether the children were secured in appropriate booster seats. Current regulations in Western Australia do not legally mandate the use of booster seats for children in taxis or rideshare vehicles.
