Ken Block's Heavily Modified 1978 Ford Escort Listed for Sale
A 1978 compact Ford Escort, previously driven by rally driver Ken Block, is currently listed for sale. Block acquired the vehicle in 2008 before it underwent conversion to left-hand drive and was upgraded for the Gymkhana Grid competition by Quick Motorsport.
This heavily modified car shares few components with a standard road-going Escort, underscoring its purpose-built nature.
Exterior Enhancements
The vehicle's steel unibody was re-engineered and fitted with a Rocket Bunny widebody kit. This kit includes flared arches, a decklid spoiler, and a carbon fiber roof scoop. The side windows were replaced with lightweight polycarbonate. The exterior features a matte black finish, prominently displaying a US flag design on the hood.
Chassis and Suspension
Underneath, the Escort features a bespoke rear end. It is equipped with an adjustable sway bar, WRC-style triangulated adjustable locating links, and remote-reservoir three-way adjustable coilovers. Special skid plates provide added protection. The car weighs a mere 1,997 lbs (906 kg).
Powertrain Specifications
Power is supplied by a custom-built 2.5-liter four-cylinder Millington Diamond engine. This sophisticated engine features 16 valves, independent throttle bodies, and a Cosworth ECU.
It generates an impressive 333 horsepower and 246 lb-ft (334 Nm) of torque, with a redline soaring to 9,000 rpm.
Unlike some of Block's other vehicles, this Escort transmits power exclusively to the rear wheels via a Sadev six-speed sequential transmission.
Interior Details
The cabin has been thoroughly stripped for competition. It now includes Recaro racing seats, a new dashboard, and a Sparco steering wheel. A signature from Ken Block is present on the driver's door panel, adding a unique touch of provenance.
Availability
The car is available for purchase through a Bring a Trailer listing.
