Canberra Centre Disturbance: Teenagers Brandish Weapons, Arrests Made

A disturbance occurred at the Canberra Centre shopping complex on Friday evening, involving a group of teenagers who reportedly brandished knives and a hammer.

ACT police were called to the location at approximately 6:20 PM following reports of the incident. Witnesses observed several young males engaging in threatening behavior with knives. One individual reportedly threw a hammer, which struck a shop window. The youths subsequently departed the scene.

Some businesses within the centre closed their doors, with staff and customers sheltering inside due to the unfolding situation. The shopping centre was busy at the time, coinciding with late-night shopping hours.

ACT Policing stated that no injuries were identified and confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the community.

A spokesperson for the Canberra Centre indicated that they are cooperating with ACT police in an ongoing investigation and reported that a number of arrests have been made. Additional security resources have been deployed throughout the centre.
