Walmart Expands Google TV Hardware Lineup

The moves follow the retailer's acquisition of smart TV maker Vizio earlier this year, signaling a deeper push into the connected home market.

Walmart is preparing to expand its lineup of Google TV hardware, with new products including a streaming device and a range of branded televisions appearing in development and on store shelves.

New Streaming Device Appears in Stores

A new streaming device from Walmart has been found available for purchase in some physical stores. The device is labeled "Onn 4K Streaming Device" on its packaging, which also indicates it runs "Google TV with Gemini."

Reported specifications for the device include:

  • 4K video output
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 8GB of storage
  • A quad-core chipset
  • A Mali G57 GPU

The package is reported to include an HDMI extender, a voice remote with AAA batteries, and a wall adapter. The device was found priced at $30. An official release date has not been announced, and reports suggest the units may have been placed on shelves ahead of schedule.

Anticipated "Pro" Set-Top Box and Television Lineup

Separately, images shared online indicate Walmart is developing a second-generation "Onn 4K Pro" set-top box. The depicted device shows a design with a wider base and rounded top, featuring USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, and Ethernet ports, along with a physical mute switch. Its design is noted as being more similar to the Google TV Streamer than the previous Onn 4K Pro model.

In addition to streaming devices, Bluetooth regulatory listings have been cited for multiple "Onn Google TV" television sets. These Onn-branded TVs are planned to be powered by the Google TV operating system and are being produced with KTC, an Original Design Manufacturer. The TV lineup is expected to include screen sizes ranging from 55 inches to 75 inches.

Context and Pricing

The $30 price point for the new streaming device aligns with Walmart's existing product range, which includes a Full HD streaming stick (approximately $20), a 4K streaming puck (approximately $25), and a 4K Plus streaming puck (previously approximately $30, now approximately $40).

The development of new Onn-branded Google TV products follows Walmart's acquisition of Vizio, a company that uses its own smart TV operating system, in 2024.
