Man Charged Following Two-Hour Siege in Sydney's West

A man has been charged following a police pursuit in Sydney's west that concluded with a two-hour siege at an apartment block. The incident, which began in the early hours of the morning, led to the arrest of Shaun Baxter after he emerged from a Whalan apartment building.

Shaun Baxter, 38, was refused bail after being charged with multiple offences, including not stopping for a police pursuit and reckless driving, following a two-hour siege at an apartment complex.

Incident Timeline

The event commenced shortly after 3 am when police attempted to stop a Toyota Camry on Aurora Drive in Tregear. Authorities initiated a pursuit of the vehicle along Luxford Road before it eventually entered an apartment complex on Halinda Street in Whalan.

Shaun Baxter, 38, reportedly exited the car upon entering the complex and made his way into the building, leaving a passenger behind. The passenger was subsequently arrested by police but later released after questioning.

Siege and Arrest

As Baxter remained inside the building, authorities quickly established a perimeter around the apartments, advising residents in the vicinity to remain indoors for their safety. After approximately two hours, Baxter emerged from the building at 5 am and was taken into custody.

Charges and Court Appearance

Baxter faces multiple charges stemming from the incident, which include:

  • Not stopping for a police pursuit
  • Reckless driving
  • Dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception
  • Breaching a domestic violence apprehended violence order

He appeared in court following his arrest and was refused bail.
