The SIXTY5: A Comprehensive Rebirth of a 1965 Mustang

Crafted by builder Anton Duval and Muscle Car Restorations, the 1965 Mustang "SIXTY5" represents a ground-up restoration born from necessity. Duval, known for previous projects like the XDUB Falcon and Jim McClaren’s ENVIE HQ Monaro, was tasked with transforming a troubled classic.

An inspection revealed significant underlying issues: seatbelts inadequately attached with silicone, extensive body filler, food wrappers in the sills, and corroded floors.

This discovery led to a comprehensive nut and bolt rebuild. The team used original panels where possible, supplementing them with aftermarket rear quarters and floors to correct the car's foundational problems.

Driveline & Performance Upgrades

The restoration went beyond mere repair, significantly upgrading the Mustang's performance.

  • The existing Windsor V8 was enhanced into a 347 cubic inch stroker.
  • It now features a CVF serpentine pulley kit and a modern Sniper 2 EFI system.
  • The output is approximately 370 horsepower at the rear wheels.

This power is managed by a C4 transmission and a sturdy 9-inch differential combination.

Chassis & Handling

Modern driving dynamics were a key focus of the build. The chassis upgrades include:

  • An RRS power steering rack conversion for improved handling.
  • Wilwood disc brakes at all four corners for reliable stopping power.
  • Koni adjustable shocks and 18-inch Foose billet wheels.

Interior Refinement & Features

The interior design prioritized refinement and comfort, achieved through high-quality sound insulation, specific foam densities, and premium carpet underlays. This meticulous approach resulted in a notable reduction in cabin noise and a luxurious feel.

Additional integrated features elevate the driving experience:

  • Vintage Air climate control
  • Power steering
  • A modern stereo system
  • New glass and window regulators
  • Updated trim complemented by subtle retro striping

Final Presentation

The exterior is finished in a striking BMW Tanzanite Blue paint, providing a contemporary yet classic appearance.

The completed SIXTY5 Mustang is scheduled for its public debut at the Meguiar’s Elite Pavilion at Rockynats on Friday, April 17th.
