FBI Investigates Malware-Laden Games on Steam

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is conducting an investigation into a hacker suspected of distributing several video games containing malware on the PC gaming platform Steam.

The FBI is investigating a hacker suspected of embedding malicious software within multiple video games hosted on Steam.

In its public announcement, the FBI identified specific games believed to have been developed by the same cybercriminal over the past two years. These titles, hosted on Steam, are reportedly embedded with malicious software. The identified games include: BlockBlasters, Chemia, Dashverse/DashFPS, Lampy, Lunara, PirateFi, and Tokenova.

Prior Incidents and Platform Vulnerabilities

This incident is not an isolated occurrence. Prior instances of hackers successfully hosting malware on the Valve-owned Steam marketplace have been reported. Last year, several games containing malware were published on Steam. These games, while functional, served as a means to trick users into installing malware on their computers. Steam subsequently removed these titles, though an unspecified number of users were affected.

Both Valve and the FBI declined to provide comments regarding the ongoing investigation.
