Labrinth Departs HBO's Euphoria Ahead of Season 3
British musician Labrinth, the composer for HBO's Euphoria since its first season, has stated he is no longer involved with the series. His departure comes ahead of the show's third season, which is set to premiere on April 12 and will feature composer Hans Zimmer.
Statements from Labrinth
On Thursday night, Labrinth posted a statement to his Instagram Story. He wrote:
"People will comfortably lie in this industry and still call themselves honest people. So no cap, I decided to remove whatever music I had in it. I spoke to HBO, as far as I know, we are cool. I left because, last truth, when I work for someone, their vision is paramount to me. But I don't let people treat me like shit."
This followed a previous, since-deleted post from last month in which he wrote, "I'm done with this industry. Fuck Columbia. Double fuck 'Euphoria.' I'm out. Thank you and good night." Labrinth is currently signed to Columbia Records, which released his album "Cosmic Opera Act 1" in January.
Response from Series Creator
Euphoria creator Sam Levinson responded to Labrinth's initial statement, calling him an "incredible collaborator" and stating, "I don't know" why he left the show. Levinson credited Labrinth with building "the foundation of the sound of Euphoria."
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Levinson discussed the musical direction for Season 3, stating he was "less interested in needle drops and more interested in something that guided us through this world." He described a visual inspiration leaning into "an old-fashioned Hollywood Western score."
