101 Studios, known for productions such as “Landman” and “Yellowstone,” has acquired the rights to “Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic,” a memoir by Alisa DeFord, also known as Bunnie Xo. The studio is proceeding with a movie adaptation of the book under its new first-look agreement with Universal Pictures.
The Memoir and Author
DeFord’s memoir chronicles her life progression from a Las Vegas trailer park to establishing a media presence as a podcaster and founder of Dumb Blonde Productions. The book was published last month and is currently in its third week on the New York Times Best Sellers List.
Bunnie Xo hosts the podcast “Dumb Blonde,” which reportedly receives over 1 million downloads monthly. She is married to artist Jelly Roll.
Statements from Involved Parties
David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, stated that Bunnie Xo’s story is a “raw, unfiltered journey that audiences immediately connect with – honest, fearless and ultimately inspiring.”
“We are excited to bring Stripped Down to the screen and capture the resilience, humor, and humanity that makes her story so powerful.”
– David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios
101 Studios indicated that the film adaptation will emphasize “the unwavering grit Bunnie carried throughout her life” and her “inspirational journey of redemption.”
Bunnie Xo commented that writing the book was a vulnerable process and expressed excitement about the story transitioning to the big screen. She hopes the film will communicate that one's past or trauma does not define them, and that it is never too late for a comeback.
