Lucid Unveils Mid-Size EV SUVs: Cosmos and Earth
Lucid officially revealed the names of its first mid-size electric SUVs, Cosmos and Earth, during its Investor Day 2026 event held in New York City. A third model on the same platform is also under development. These new models are strategically positioned to target a different market segment than Lucid's existing larger Air sedan and Gravity SUV.
With an estimated starting price of approximately $50,000, the Cosmos and Earth models aim to expand Lucid's market reach.
Advancing EV Technology: The Cosmos and Earth Platform
The Cosmos and Earth EVs will feature an 800-volt battery system with zonal architecture, which supports bidirectional charging.
Introducing the "Atlas" Drive UnitPowering these new crossovers will be a newly developed drive unit named "Atlas." This innovative unit boasts significant improvements over current-generation motors, including a reported 23% reduction in weight and a 30% reduction in parts.
Cosmos: Range, Aerodynamics, and PracticalityThe Cosmos is projected to achieve over 300 miles of range, supported by a 69 kilowatt-hours battery capacity. This impressive range is attributed to its highly aerodynamic design, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.22. The vehicles will also incorporate mechanical door handles, a detail focused on tactile user experience.
A Redefined Cabin: Ultra-Widescreen and AI Integration
Departing from a traditional center touchscreen, the new mid-size crossovers will feature a single, ultra-widescreen display positioned prominently on top of the dashboard. This expansive display will be intelligently divided into four zones, providing information related to energy, navigation, entertainment, and other details like weather forecasts. An artificial intelligence-powered assistant, designed for natural voice interaction, is expected to be central to the overall user experience.
Differentiating the Mid-Size Lineup
Each model within the new mid-size lineup is tailored to distinct driver preferences. The Cosmos is characterized as an urban, on-road, performance-oriented vehicle. In contrast, the Earth model is described as more suitable for suburban and varied road conditions. The third, as-yet-unnamed mid-size model is anticipated to be the most adventure-ready offering in the series.
