Crimson Desert: Post-Launch Updates, System Specs, and Developer Response
Since its March 19, 2026 launch, the open-world action RPG Crimson Desert has received multiple updates addressing gameplay, performance, and quality-of-life features. Developer Pearl Abyss has also released detailed system specifications across all platforms and responded to player feedback regarding the game's story and controls.
Post-Launch Updates and Patches
Since its release, Crimson Desert has been updated with several patches aimed at fixing bugs, improving performance, and adding features based on player feedback.
Day One and Early Updates (Versions 1.00.02 & 1.00.03)- A day-one patch added a new tutorial quest in Chapter 3, improved cutscene fast-forwarding, and adjusted gameplay systems.
- Subsequent updates introduced initial controller improvements, fixed crashes on PlayStation 5 when opening the map, and resolved various quest progression issues.
Numerous quality-of-life changes were implemented, including:
- Reduced time for knowledge acquisition and simplified skill learning.
- Increased number of fast-travel points (Abyss Nexuses).
- Added Private Storage locations.
- Adjusted combat balance, including reduced enemy health and attack for certain bosses.
- Fixed localization errors and improved UI elements.
- Version 1.01.00 (Late March): Introduced five new summonable mounts, reduced loading times, added an instant crafting function, and relocated the private storage chest.
- Version 1.02.00 (April 4): Expanded private storage capacity, scaling up to 1,000 slots based on in-game camp progression. Added a toggle to hide or show headgear for character customization.
- Multiple smaller hotfixes have addressed specific issues such as graphical bugs, combat anomalies, and stability problems.
- Pearl Abyss has stated that further control optimizations are planned for future updates.
System Requirements and Platform Specifications
Prior to launch, Pearl Abyss released detailed hardware specifications for Crimson Desert across all supported platforms.
PC Requirements- All tiers require 16 GB of RAM, Windows 10 64-bit 22H2 or newer, and 150 GB of SSD storage.
- Specifications range from Minimum (Upscaled 1080p, 30 FPS) using a GTX 1060 or RX 5500 XT, to Ultra (4K, 60 FPS) requiring an RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070.
- PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X: Offer Performance (1080p, 60 FPS), Balanced (upscaled 4K, 40 FPS), and Quality (upscaled 4K, 30 FPS) modes with varying levels of raytracing.
- PlayStation 5 Pro: Provides enhanced resolution and raytracing across similar modes, including a native 4K Quality option.
- Xbox Series S: Features Performance (720p, 40 FPS) and Quality (1080p, 30 FPS) modes, both without raytracing.
- Mac: Supports multiple performance tiers on macOS 15, with all tiers targeting 60 FPS on macOS 26+.
- ROG Ally: Dedicated specs were provided for both the base and "X" models of the handheld device.
Note on Xbox Gameplay Footage: Ahead of release, Pearl Abyss did not publicly showcase gameplay footage for the Xbox Series X/S versions, directing inquiries to the published specifications sheet instead.
Developer Response to Feedback
Following the launch, Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young addressed player and critic feedback in a shareholders' meeting.
On Gameplay and Controls- The developer acknowledged player "discomfort" with the control scheme and announced plans for patches to address it, offering an apology to keyboard and mouse users.
- Heo Jin-young stated that while the team attempted to address narrative shortcomings, they ultimately prioritized strengthening gameplay due to development constraints.
- Despite criticisms, the game sold 2 million copies within its first day and reached 3 million copies within the first week, with projections of 5 million sales.
- Following the release of review scores, Pearl Abyss's stock price declined significantly.
- The CEO confirmed there are no concrete plans for DLC currently, with the focus remaining on improving the base game.
- Other discussed future possibilities included ongoing research for a Nintendo Switch 2 version and noted that past attempts to add multiplayer were abandoned due to performance impacts. Official mod support was described as having no concrete plans due to the technical requirements.
- The developer has not commented on accusations regarding the use of AI-generated art in the game. Steam's policy requires disclosure of generative AI use on a game's store page, and no such disclaimer is currently present for Crimson Desert.
