Google Photos Introduces Quick Toggle for AI and Classic Search
Google Photos is implementing a new quick toggle directly within its search interface. This feature empowers users to effortlessly switch between the AI-powered Ask Photos experience and the traditional classic search.
Enhanced User Control and Accessibility
The dedicated toggle is designed to provide users with greater control over their search experience, eliminating the need to navigate through various menus. It will appear directly within the search UI, making the choice immediately accessible.
Shimrit Ben-Yair, Google Photos lead, announced this development, highlighting its direct response to user feedback requesting more control over search results.
"The new experience allows users to choose between fast classic search and intelligent Ask Photos results, with the ability to switch views as needed."
Context: Evolution of Ask Photos
Ask Photos initially began its rollout in October 2024. Following initial user feedback, Google previously introduced a "classic search" option and made adjustments to the user interface. Before its wider launch in 2025, Google also enabled users to disable Ask Photos entirely. This new toggle represents a further refinement based on user requests for more fluid control.
Improved Performance and User Satisfaction
Ben-Yair also reported significant improvements in the Ask Photos experience. There has been improved quality for "most popular searches" and a notable increase in positive feedback for Ask Photos in recent months.
The rollout of this convenient new toggle is currently in its early stages, promising a more flexible and responsive search experience for Google Photos users.
