Samsung Galaxy S26 Series Introduces Exynos 2600 Chipset with AI-Powered Visual Perception System for Camera Enhancement

View source

Samsung has launched the Galaxy S26 and S26+ smartphones, primarily featuring its in-house Exynos 2600 chipset in most markets.

This new chip incorporates the Visual Perception System (VPS), an AI-powered system designed to enhance camera performance and facilitate improved photo capture.

How the Visual Perception System Works

Modern smartphone cameras increasingly utilize AI to optimize image capture. The VPS on the Exynos 2600 chipset continuously analyzes the scene both before and during photo capture. This real-time analysis enables the phone to identify faces, motion, and lighting conditions within the image.

Key functionalities include:

  • Intelligent Frame Combining: The system can detect blinks and facial expressions. If a person blinks during a photo, the system can combine frames from multiple shots to produce a final image where subjects' eyes are open, reducing the need for retakes.

  • Multi-frame Processing: The Exynos 2600 processes multiple frames from the camera preview. These frames are then merged to enhance detail, brightness, and reduce noise, particularly in low-light conditions or scenes with movement.

  • Segmented Image Processing: AI can process different parts of an image independently. For example, skin tones can be smoothed while retaining sharpness in details like hair.

Efficiency and Availability

The VPS operates as a dedicated subsystem for camera AI tasks, enabling real-time image processing with reduced battery consumption. This allows features such as advanced face detection and motion tracking to function continuously.

While VPS is specific to the Exynos 2600, Galaxy S26 units equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor are expected to offer similar advancements in photography. The Galaxy S26 Ultra will globally feature the Qualcomm chip, while the base S26 and S26+ will include the Snapdragon processor in regions such as the US and other select markets.
