WOMADelaide Festival Announces Program Changes Due to Travel Disruptions
The WOMADelaide Festival has announced program changes due to several acts being unable to travel to Australia. The festival confirmed on Wednesday that Alfio Antico & Go Dugong, Asmâa Hamzaoui & Bnat Timbouktou, Bhutan Balladeers, and Stan's Café Theatre Company — The Commentators were impacted by travel restrictions.
Global Travel Landscape
Over 20,000 flights have been canceled recently, coinciding with heightened conflict in the Middle East. Despite these disruptions, a plane with 200 Australians arrived in Sydney from Dubai, one of 60 flights from the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday. Another flight from the Middle East is expected to land in Sydney on Friday, departing Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
WOMADelaide festival director Ian Scobie stated that the logistical challenges of bringing artists from around the globe to Adelaide have been "immense" given the current environment.

Alfio Antico & Go Dugong Detail Travel Issues
Italian act Alfio Antico & Go Dugong confirmed via social media that they were "unable to find a solution" for their travel to Australia. Their trip included a stopover in Dubai, and the current geopolitical situation made travel unfeasible. They attempted to find alternative routes but could not secure a solution without risking health, safety, and performance success.
The festival is scheduled to take place from March 6 to March 9.
