Kaiya Wynn Departs Lady Vols Basketball Program Ahead of Postseason
Kaiya Wynn, a senior guard for the Lady Vols basketball program, announced her departure from the team on Tuesday, prior to the postseason. Her decision followed the regular season's conclusion and occurred two days before the Lady Vols commenced postseason play. Wynn stated the decision was not made lightly or instantly.
The Decision & "Breaking Point"
Wynn did not participate in senior day when the Lady Vols lost to Vanderbilt, an event she later cited as a crucial turning point. She explained that she had anticipated starting her final home game, having never done so in her career.
Wynn stated she was asked to enter the game with 15 seconds remaining while the team was losing, which was not her desired way to conclude her five years in the arena.
This moment served as her "breaking point," leading to her decision to leave the team.
Kaiya Wynn's Lady Vol Career Overview
Wynn played 103 games over four seasons during her tenure with the Lady Vols. In the 2025-26 season, she saw limited action, playing 52 minutes in nine games.
Her most productive season was 2023-24, where she averaged 4.4 points and 1.6 assists in 13.4 minutes per game.
Wynn missed the entire 2024-25 season due to an Achilles tendon tear. She originally signed with the University of Tennessee as the No. 62 prospect in the 2021 class.
Team Performance Context
The Lady Vols (16-12) enter the postseason as the No. 6 seed in the SEC Tournament. They are scheduled to play on Thursday against the winner of Alabama and Missouri. The team has faced significant challenges recently, losing six consecutive games and nine of their last eleven outings.
