On Sunday, March 1, a U.S. State Department employee was fatally shot by a Virginia state trooper following a stabbing incident on the Capital Beltway in Virginia. The incident involved multiple victims and prompted an ongoing investigation by state authorities.

A U.S. State Department employee was fatally shot by a Virginia state trooper, who claimed self-defense after the employee allegedly confronted him with a knife following a multiple-victim stabbing incident on the Capital Beltway.

Incident Details

Police describe the stabbings as a road rage incident that occurred on Interstate 495 in the southbound lanes. Four women were stabbed.

Michele Adams, 39, of Fairfax, died from her injuries. Three other women, aged 36, 37, and 40, sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized following the attack. Tragically, a dog belonging to the alleged assailant was also fatally stabbed.

Key Individuals Identified

The deceased alleged assailant has been identified as Jared Llamado, 32, of McLean. Llamado was a U.S. State Department foreign service officer, working in a technology role for approximately 18 months.

A Virginia state trooper shot Llamado, stating the action was taken in self-defense after Llamado allegedly confronted him with a knife. The trooper involved in the incident was not injured.

Investigation Status

Virginia State Police are actively conducting an investigation into the sequence of events. Authorities believe the stabbings occurred subsequent to a vehicle crash on the Beltway at exit 52, near Little River Turnpike.

The women who were stabbed were not passengers in Llamado's vehicle. Llamado is currently considered the only suspect in the stabbings, which are not believed to be related to terrorism. The incident led to a several-hour shutdown of the Capital Beltway Outer Loop near Little River Turnpike.
