Series Overview and Cast
Created by Abe Sylvia, 'Palm Royale' featured an ensemble cast, including Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, Julia Duffy, and Carol Burnett.
Based on Juliet McDaniel's novel 'Mr. and Mrs. American Pie' and produced by Apple Studios, the show depicted Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig) in 1969 as she sought entry into Palm Beach high society.
Accolades and Narrative Conclusion
The first season of 'Palm Royale' received 11 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series and acting nominations for Wiig and Burnett. It won an Emmy for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music. For its second season, Kristen Wiig was nominated for an Annual Actor Award, and the series received a GLAAD Media Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Season 2 concluded with Maxine navigating her status as a social pariah, using her intelligence to re-establish her position. The show's storyline provided a conclusion, which included a tribute to Carol Burnett’s character, Norma Dellacorte, who performed “Something Good” in the season finale.
Season 2's cast also included Claudia Ferri, Jason Canela, Jordan Bridges, James Urbaniak, Roberto Sanchez, Rick Cosnett, and Ryan Dorsey, and welcomed John Stamos, Patti LuPone, Vicki Lawrence, and Matt Rogers.
