"Black Ops Royale" Announced for Call of Duty: Warzone, Launches March 13
Activision and Treyarch have unveiled "Black Ops Royale," a brand-new battle-royale mode set to launch within Call of Duty: Warzone on March 13. This new experience draws significant inspiration from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's critically acclaimed "Blackout" mode. It will incorporate familiar elements such as bullet drop, weapon handling, a dedicated armor system, and the strategic use of Trauma Kits, all while seamlessly integrating into the existing Warzone infrastructure.
The mode aims to deliver a modern rendition of Blackout's distinct pacing, traversal, and combat feel, ensuring a flow that remains suitable and engaging for current Warzone players.
Core Gameplay Overview
Black Ops Royale will pit 100 players against each other, divided into 25 squads. Participants will initiate deployment via wingsuit and begin battles without access to loadouts, the Gulag, or buy stations, emphasizing a raw, survival-focused start.
Scavenging for weapons and utilizing a rarity-based upgrade system will be central to progression.
Key features shaping the experience include:
- Player Count: 100 players across 25 squads.
- Deployment: Wingsuit deployment for all players.
- Starting State: Players begin with no loadouts, Gulag, or Buy Stations, requiring immediate scavenging.
- Progression: Relies on finding weapons and upgrading them through a rarity system.
- Unique Element: Incorporates "Cradle Breaches" into gameplay.
Map: "Avalon" Reimagined
The action unfolds on the "Avalon" map, which originally debuted as an Endgame map in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. This iconic environment has been specifically modified for Black Ops Royale within Warzone, with a reduced emphasis on water areas and added connections between islands to optimize it for battle-royale gameplay.
Arsenal and Gear
Players will actively scavenge the map to acquire weapons, which feature fixed archetypes and five-attachment upgrade paths. Equipping specific attachment kits will incrementally increase a weapon's rarity, unlocking preset builds that can ultimately reach Legendary status.
A diverse array of equipment inspired by Blackout makes a return, including grappling hooks, sensor darts, and Trauma Kits. Killstreaks are also present, alongside a tiered armor vest system for enhanced protection.
Players can combine weapon archetypes with class benefits and build themes to strategically enhance their firepower.
The Heads-Up Display (HUD) provides vital combat information, detailing enemy health, weapon rarity, archetype, and potential attachment upgrade paths. Furthermore, the original Perk system from Blackout returns, allowing players to swap five consumable boosts on the fly for temporary tactical advantages.
Objectives Beyond Elimination
Beyond the primary goal of squad elimination, Black Ops Royale offers optional in-game activities to enrich the gameplay loop. These include hunting bounties, cracking strongboxes, capturing relays, and fighting through guild defenses.
Successfully completing these side-objectives provides valuable rewards such as additional armor, UAV sweeps, and other crucial loadout upgrades.
Release Details and Availability
Black Ops Royale is scheduled for release on March 13. Activision Blizzard has confirmed that the mode will be free-to-play for all Warzone players. Call of Duty: Warzone is widely available across multiple platforms, including Windows PC (via Steam and Battle.net), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.
