Emergency Warning Issued for North Geelong Following Car Yard Explosions

An emergency warning was issued for parts of Geelong following multiple explosions at a car yard. The incident, involving several gas bottles, occurred around 3:30 PM at a facility located near Thompson Road and Armstrong Street in North Geelong.

Residents in the affected vicinity were urged to evacuate immediately.

Emergency Response and Public Safety Advice

Eight firetrucks and police units were dispatched to the scene to manage the situation. Authorities, including VicEmergency and Fire Rescue Victoria, advised the public to avoid the area due to black smoke and hazardous conditions.

Road Closures and Evacuation Orders

Road closures were implemented on Thompson Road, Armstrong Street, and Pashley Avenue. Individuals away from their homes were advised against returning. Drivers were instructed to close windows, turn off air conditioning, and shut vents when traveling through or leaving the warning zone.
